IN 2005, The International Health Club, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) started the process to make Personal Training Certifications meaningful and it was found that in order to make them standardized, it would require a third party board to give accredited certification.
There are only 6 certifying bodies who are currently board certified by the NCCA which is the board chosen to oversea the testing. These certifications are from the following organizations:
- - NASM
- -ACE
- -NCSF
- -NFPT
- -NSCA
- - Cooper Institute
If your trainer does not hold certification from one of these organizations, then you may not be getting safe and effective training per IHRSA. (Click here to read the entire article from IHRSA)
The reason I am telling you this is that I want you to have safe and effective training and if the main trade organization for fitness in the US (IHRSA) says that you need a board certified instructor, then you should spend your money wisely and ensure you get one!!
