Hi There, I am David Hansey and I believe that you spend your hard-earned money on personal training to meet YOUR GOALS. I truly believe you should focus on being the BEST and in order to be the best, you have to train with the best.
For Personal Training, that means that you seek out a personal trainer who has credentials and can help you to be the best that you can be. There are only a few certifications that the IHRSA recommend for trainers. The reason these are recommended is that they use outside boards to conduct their testing ensuring trainers are certified with these standards. The certifying body is the NCCA and only the following certifications comply with that standard:
- - NASM
- -ACE
- -NCSF
- -NFPT
- -NSCA
- - Cooper Institute
If your trainer does not hold certification from one of these organizations, then you may not be getting safe and effective training per IHRSA. (Click here to read the entire article from IHRSA)
The reason I am telling you this is that I want you to have safe and effective training and if the main trade organization for fitness in the US says that you need a board certified instructor, then you should spend your money wisely and ensure you get one!!
Since I hold multiple certifications with NASM and I train with people every day so I see the results that come from following a scientific method such as those from NASM. (Click here if you would like to know more about personal training certifications)
The best results come from personal training because it is designed for YOU!! Your personal training program is unique to you and your strengths, weaknesses and goals. Do you enjoy group training and classes? Well then try adding some of those too as your cardio workout. Just remember they do not replace strength training. And for those who have special needs (such as hypertension, weak or tight muscles, osteoporosis, etc) group fitness and classes are designed with the lowest common denominator so they may not be for you.And since classes are made for the masses, they can be fun and great cardio but will obviously lack the results of personal training. And classes where they use weights are not strength training, they are cardio classes so don't get confused by group training. It can be a great addition to your workout but rarely is it the best solution as your only workout. For more information on group fitness classes, click here.
